Violet Clyne
Hi! I'm Violet (she/her)! I'm a 23 year old screenwriter hoping to one day make my passion a full time job! As a teenager, I was on and off homeless with my family, writing my screenplays in motel rooms, friends houses, backseats of cars, and homeless shelters. Screenwriting has given me a way to turn my trauma into something beautiful that I hope will one day change the world. Growing up a queer woman in a Mormon household, growing up in poverty with an addict mother, experiencing mental and physical disorders has all inspired me to write. I want to show addiction, mental illness, queerness, abuse, and other serious subjects in my writing so people who've experienced these things can feel heard and so those who don't know the experience can be informed. I think storytelling is the most powerful way to expand empathy in the world. When you watch a movie or T.V show you are literally stepping into someone else's shoes. I think a lot of our problems in society can be solved if we all make conscious efforts to be empathetic to our fellow humans.
I've been working very closely with the organization Outside The Frame here in Oregon! I have written a few short films with them and directed and acted in projects. My work with Outside The Frame has even led me to win the Oregon Historical Film 2024 Society's Seilg award, which honors young filmmakers with promising futures. As I continue working in the industry, I hope to uplift my fellow homeless youth. My biggest aspiration for my career is to one day write and direct a film with a cast and crew consisting entirely of those who have experienced homelessness or poverty.
