Julia Tuohy

Actor, Director, Screenwriter

Julia Tuohy is a Portland-based writer, director, and actress whose work explores the gap between what is visible and what is true: in women's lives, in systems, and in the small human transactions that hold everything together.
Born and raised in Snohomish, Washington, Julia studied Digital Arts at the University of Oregon and spent nearly two decades in product design. She has channeled that career and the particular way it trained her to observe how systems actually function versus how they claim to, directly into her filmmaking.
Her debut short film Night Service, a feminist dark comedy she wrote, directed, produced, and starred in, wrapped production in March 2026 and is currently in post-production. For Lunch, her second short screenplay, is an absurdist comedy about a dying mall's shadow economy and the elaborate human chain required to get one person lunch.
